A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, WITH DR. BILL SLOUNT, UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA, FOR A PERIOD OF ONE t 1 i YEAR, TO CONDUCT AN INTENSIVE CASE STUDY FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $19,000, FROM THE ANTI -GANG INITIATIVE GRANT. WHEREAS, the Department of Police was awarded an Anti -Gang Initiative Grant which will be used to eradicate the most influential gangs in the CAV of Miami; and f WHEREAS, the grant requires an intensive case study of the strategies to be implemented in order to identify and potential barriers or problarms; and WHEREAS, ter, Blount is nationally Known in the criminal justice, field and wigs chosen by the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF T11E CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated l erein as if fully set forth in this Section. II '„ Section 2. Funding will be from the Anti - Gang Initiative Grant. KA,CKGRO'fiM: The Department of Police •aas awarded an Anti -Clang Initiative Grant fronn tlnu; U.S. Department of Justice which will be used to eradicate the most violent and influential gangs in the City of Miami. An intensive case: study is a requirement of the grant. 'The Department will use Dr. Bill Blount of the Dniversitgr of South Florida to conduct this study. Tlx study will document the Department's strategies to ,help id ntii x barriers and problems in the implementation of those strategies. He will further coordinate a needs assessment for components to assure a successful Frog .Tarn.
