HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-96-0660J-96-1082 9/12/96 RESOLUT►ON NO.9 6 — 660 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, WITH THE NON -VIOLENCE PROJECT FOR A PERIOD OF ONE (1) YEAR, TO PROVIDE STAFF FOR THEIR "TALK IT OUT" PROGRAM; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $65,500.. FROM THE "ANTI -GANG INITIATIVE GRANT." WHEREAS, the Department of Police was awarded an Anti -Gang Initiative Grant which will be used to eradicate the most violent and influential gangs in the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, the grant allows, the use of said fund frr the Non -Violence Project; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if 'fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized. to execute a Professional Services Agreement, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, with ti.,, Non -Violence Pfoje", for a period of one (1) 'year, to provide staff for their, `Talk It Out Program', with ' 7 he herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all rnquiretments that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not firreited to those Prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. Odlo REFERENCES : Non -Violence Project; City h4anager ENCLOSURES, Profess>onal SelyiCes A. , wment RECOMMENDATION - I t is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the enclosed Resolution allowing the City Manager to execute a Professional Services Agreement with the Non -Violence Project, in an amount not to exceed $65,500.00, for the Department of Police. Funding will be from the .Anti - Gang Initiative Grant. 13.3eWID. The Noti-Iiolence Project, founded in 1993, is an international youth -based organization committed. to radically chd- gging attitudes about violence and inspiring,, motivating and engaging „ young people around the world in positive action against violence:. Their ol;ective is to create a change by getting to the root of'violent behavior. The Department of Police was awarded an Anti -Clang Initiative Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice which allows the use of funds for the Non -Violence Project. The money received, from the Department v,►ill be utilized to provide a field coordinator, two outreaa, mumgers and an office manager for their Talk it Out Program, This programs wi.il assist the Department in getting out a "non -violence" message to the youth of our community with the hape. tlsat it v i.11 ,seduce gang involvement and violence. 96 - 66
