WHEREAS, the Police Department is a leader in creating ixmovative programs which, focus on the human/individual needs of police personnel; and WHEREAS, a need exists to provide support and guidance to the Department's sergeants; and %MERRAS, effective line supervision of officers is critical in identifying and correcting probl.enis at an early stage; and WIMREAS, Law Enforcement Psychological Counseling .Service, Inc., has proposed a. training {course for sergeants that will enable them to participate in a learning Pnvirorntent designed to promote self-awareness, =m unication skills, problem -solving techniques, and a non -threatening war to view their own personality axid management style; NOW, THSREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TFS COMISSION OF "ITG CITE OF MI.AMI , FLORIDA: CITY COMOSW U ZTING Of SSEP 11 1 Howtueice No. 9 — 613 Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The acquisition of .humam relations inanagemeut training for Sergeants of Fol ice from Lau Enforcement i Psychological Counseling Services, Inc., is hereby authorized, in I an amount not to emceed $23, 250.00, with finds therefor hereby ,allocated from the Police Department General operating Budget, Index Code 290201-270. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby Authorized!' to execute any documents necessary, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for actraisition of said training, Section 4. C Human Relations City er ErvcLosuAEs: Management Training It is mpectfully recoi-amended that a Resolution authorizing the Police Depam-tment to procure the services of Law Enforcement Psychological Counseling Services, Inc., at a cast of $23,250.00, be approved. Funding will be. from the Police :Department General Operating Budget, Indent Code 2,90201-270. BA . GROUND: The Miami Police Department is a .leader in creating innovative programs which focus on the huunardindividual needs of police personnel. The department believes there is a nerd to provide support and guidance for their sergeants, as effective line supervision of officers is critical in identifying a -Lid correcting problems at an early stage. When a sergeant does not intervene appropriately, then small problems can quickly become large and expensive ones for the department. Law Enforcement Psychological Counyeli:ng Services, Inc., has proposed a training course for sergeawts which will enable them to participate in a learning environrnent designed to promote self-awareness, communication skills, problem -solving techniques, and a non -threatening way to look at their own personality and management style. The r.,ourse's goal is to assist the sergeants with gaining self-confidence in their management skills which will eirible there to handle their regmasibilities of supervision in a professional manner.
