RESOLUTION NO. 9 6- 4 4 8
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
ISSUE A REVOCABLE LICENSE TO 20TH CENTURY FOX FOR
THE USE OF VARIOUS CITY -OWNED PROPERTIES FOR
COMMERCIAL FILMING PURPOSES; ESTABLISHING A FAIR
RETURN TO THE CITY FOR SUCH COMMERCIAL USE;
FURTHER CONDITIONING SAID AUTHORIZATION UPON THE
MOTION PICTURE COMPANY COMPENSATING THE
TENANTS OF ONE OF THE PROPERTIES FOR ECONOMIC
LOSSES RESULTING FROM DISRUPTION AND/OR TOTAL
INTERRUPTION OF THEIR BUSINESS DURING THE FILMING,
AND FURTHER SUBJECT TO CERTAIN CONDITIONS AS
HEREIN SPECIFIED.
WHEREAS, the motion picture industry invests more than twenty (2) million dollars
in the City of Miami annually, and
WHEREAS, the motion picture industry contributes to the wealth of the residents of
the City of Miami, provides jobs each year for City residents, and is conducive to improving
the attractiveness of, and exposing potential tourists to the City of Miami; and
WHEREAS, this summer, 20th Century Fox will be filming a major motion picture
called "Speed 2" in the City of Miami; and
WHEREAS, 20th Century Fox will be constructing most of the sets and doing most
of the filming in the City of Miami, thus contributing to the economic well being of City
residents; and
WHEREAS, 20th Century Fox has requested permission to utilize various city -owned
properties for production and filming activities; and

WHEREAS, the City has determined that said properties are available for such use

at this time;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1 The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution
are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to issue a revocable license to
20th Century Fox to utilize, for a period of approximately six (6) months, the following
city -owned properties for production and filming purposes in connection with the filming of
„Speed 2":
1. The large hangar at the Dinner Key Boat Yard, located at 2640 South
Bayshore Drive; and
2. A portion of the property commonly known as the Florida East Coast
property, located at 650 Biscayne Boulevard; and
3. The Virrick Gym, located at 2600 South Bayshore Drive;
Section 3. The herein authorization is hereby conditioned upon the following: (1)
receipt, by the City, of a fair return on the properties, which the City Commission hereby
establishes as follows: Virrick Gym, $3,000 per month, Dinner Key Boat Yard, $4,500 per
month, and the FEC property, $5,000 per month; (2) the agreement, by 20th Century Fox,
to compensate the current tenants at the Dinner Key Boat Yard facility for economic losses
incurred as a result of the disruption and/or total interruption of their business activities; (3)
that the use proposed for the FEC Property does not interfere with the proposed
construction schedule pertaining to the Port expansion and the development of an arena by

the Miami Heat; (4) said revocable license to contain standard language pertaining to
