HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-96-0436RESOLUTION NO. 9 6 - 436 A RESOLUTION, AUTHORIZING AN INCREASE IN THE FUNDING FOR THE ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMS, INC., IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $40,000; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, SUCH EXPENDITURE HATING BEEN CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH FLORIDA STATE STATUTES, CHAPTER 932.7055, AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, Florida State Statute, Chapter 932.7055, as amended, authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture proceeds of law enforcement and anti -drug educational purposes; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 89-856, adopted September 28, 1989, authorized the funding of The Alternative Programs, Inc., (Program), in the amount of $55,000; and WHEREAS, because of the value of the Program and the need for its continuation, the Miami Police Department has increased allocations to the Program, in a total amount of $370,000, pursuant to Resolution Nos. 90-944, 92-201, 93-•551, 93-799, and 95-851; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has determined that the proposed expenditure complies with Florida State Statutes, Chapter 932.7055, as amended; CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF J U N 1 3 1996 Resolution No. 96- 436 V { i j NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. j Section 2. An increase in the funding for The Alternative Programs, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $40,000, is hereby authorized, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project Number and Index Code to be identified by the Chief of Police, such expenditure having been certified by the Chief of Police as complying with Florida State Statutes, Chapter 932.7055, as amended. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 13th day PC / June 1996. BACKGROUND: The Miami Police Department supports the efforts of those groups responsible for, and dedicated to, the education of the public in the area of drug abuse. The .Alternative Programs, Inc., targets those high risk high school students and chemically dependent people in need of support and counseling. Clients are referred to the program by both_ the courts and law enforcement agencies. This is the seventh year of funding this organization. 96'- 436 1 a; , Donald H.
