BACKGROUND The Department of Community Planning and Revitalization has prepared the attached Resolution to continue implementation of the Watson Island Policy Plan 1996, approved by the City Commission pursuant to Resolution No. 96-80. Consistent with the policy plan for Watson Island, development of a world -class, regional visitors center and associated services is proposedto enhance visitor and tourist uses, complimenting existing facilities on the island. The promotion of exhibition, convention and tourist trade in. Greater Miami is enhanced by the provision of associated administrative support, visitor information and tourist transportation services. A regional visitors center and associated services may include air transportation facilities, food and beverage services, museum space and administrative office space.to promote .and support visitor center services It is recommended that MESA be designated as the entity to coordinate the development of a regional visitors center and associated services "O on Watson Island. 95-- 28
