RESOLUTION NO. 0 C3 - 2 00
A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY AND
SINCEREST CONDOLENCES OF THE CITY COMMISSION
ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF MIAMI AND ITS
CITIZENS TO FORMER CITY OF MIAMI MAYOR,
XAVIER L. SUAREZ, MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY AND
FRIENDS OF MANUEL SUAREZ-CARRENO, UPON HIS
UNTIMELY DEATH.
WHEREAS, Manuel Suarez-Carreno, father of former City of
Miami Mayor Xavier L. Suarez, who recently passed away, was a
multi -faceted and talented man who leaves an outstanding legacy
of benchmark achievements in his many endeavors; and
WHEREAS, he will be remembered in the scientific community
as an innovator and the nuclear engineer who developed a
state -of -the art analysis of nuclear power plant structures known
as dynamic impact analysis that was used in Bechtel Corporation
designed plants worldwide, including the Florida Power & Light
Company's Turkey Point plant; and
WHEREAS, he will be remembered by all as a man dedicated to
civic and public service and was a founding member of the
Christian Democratic Party in his native Cuba where he was
incarcerated by the Castro regime for two months for his beliefs;
and
WHEREAS, he will be remembered by all as a religious man
with deep personal convictions about the importance of

guaranteeing positive rights for all people and was a founding
member of the Agrupacion Catolica Universitaria, a Christian lay
organization; and
WHEREAS, he will be especially remembered by his family and
close friends as a humble and generous man who worked very hard
to teach and exemplify the highest family values to his large
family of fourteen; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Commission, on behalf
of the City of Miami and its citizens, to express its deepest
sympathy to former City of Miami Mayor Xavier L. Suarez, members
of the family and friends of Manuel Suarez-Carreno;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. On behalf of the citizens of the City of
Miami, the City Commission hereby conveys to former City of Miami
Mayor, Xavier L. Suarez, members of the family and friends of
Manuel Suarez-Carreno, its deepest sympathy and sincerest
condolences, upon his untimely death.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.
