A RESOLUTION RESCINDING IN ITS ENTIRETY, RESOLUTION NO. 93-808, ADOPTED DECEMBER 16, 1993, WHEREBY, THE CITY COMMISSION, IN PRINCIPLE, COMMITTED UP TO $1.35 MILLION AS A TICKET GUARANTEE FOR THE AWARD OF THE ORANGE BOWL AS THE SITE FOR THE 1996 OLYMPICS SOCCER MATCHES; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $200,000.00, FROM ORANGE BOWL FUNDS, ACCOUNT CODE. NO. 350503-990- 404000, TO THE SOUTH FLORIDA SOCCER ORGANIZING COMMITTEE FOR 1996 TO ASSIST IN PROMOTING OLYMPIC SOCCER TO A WORLDWIDE AUDIENCE. WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 93-808, adopted December 16, 1993, the City Commission agreed, in principle, to participate equally with Metropolitan Dade County (the "County") in assuring an aggregate amount of $2.7 million to secure ticket guarantees to the Atlanta Olympic Committee for the Olympic Games, Inc. (the "ACOG"), a private not -for -profit corporation organized under the Laws of the State of Georgia in connection with quarter -final soccer matches to be held at the Orange Bowl during the Olympiad Games of 1996; and WHEREAS, the County adopted a resolution authorizing the County Manager to execute an agreement with ACOG providing for County funding in the amount of $3.5 million to fulfill the total increased obligations of the ticket guarantee, thereby rescinding CITY CONIImSSION MEETING OF FEB 2 9 1996 Resolution No. 96- 157 its previous resolution concerning its initial ticket guarantee of $2.7 million; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami has no further financial responsibility to AGOG to commit funds to cover any shortfall in the ticket guarantee and wishes to rescind said commitment; and WHEREAS, the South Florida Soccer Organizing Committee for I 1996 (the "SFSOC"), a not -for profit corporation, was organized exclusively to promote the Olympic Soccer Games to be held in the Orange Bowl, and the City of Miami will reap major economic benefits from the anticipated 75,000 visitors and 1,000 members of the media to visit Miami for said soccer matches; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Resolution No. 93-808, adopted December 16, 1993, whereby the City Commission, in principle, committed up to $1.35 million as a ticket guarantee for the award of the Orange Bowl as the site for the 1996 Olympics soccer matches, is hereby rescinded in its entirety. - 2 - 95- 157 Section 3. Funds therefor, in an amount not to exceed $200,000.00, are hereby allocated from Orange Bowl Funds, Account Code No. 350503-990-404000, to the South Florida Soccer Organizing Committee for 1996 ("SFSOC") to assist in promoting Olympic Soccer to a worldwide audience.
