HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-96-0072r J-96-92 1/12/96 40ft1 RESOLUTION NO. 9 Vj- 72 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF 1,200 FLORIDA LAW ENFORCEMENT HANDBOOKS - DADE COUNTY EDITION FROM METRO DADE COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT AT A TOTAL PROPOSED .AMOUNT OF $10,680.00, FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT GENERAL OPERATING BUDGET, ACCOUNT CODE NO. 290201-760; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER TO ISSUE A PURCHASE ORDER FOR THIS ACQUISITION. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Police Department needs to purchase 1,200 Florida Law Enforcement Handbooks at a total proposed amount of $10,680.00 from Metro Dade County Police Department; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available from the Police Department General Operating Budget, Account Code No. 290201-760; and WHEREAS, the Department of Police will utilize these handbooks as a valuable tool in assisting police officers who must, on a daily basis, make quick, on -the -spot decisions that could have far reaching effects upon the officer and his or her department; and WHEREAS, each handbooks will provide officers with an updated compilation of state statutes and legal guidelines as CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF JAN 2 5 1998 Resolution No, 96- 72 r amended and produced as a result of the Florida Legislative session. Metro Dade County currently holds the copyright on these handbooks; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Chief of Police recommend that this purchase from Metro Dade County Police Department, at a total proposed amount of $10,680.00, be approved; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. a Section 2. The purchase of 1,200 Florida Law Enforcement Handbooks, at a total proposed amount of $10,680.00, from Metro Dade County Police Department with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Police Department General Operating budget, Account Code No. 290201-760, is approved. ` Section 3. Odio REFERENCES: City Manager ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended that a Resolution authorizing the purchase of 1,200, 1996 Florida Law Enforcement Handbooks - Dade County Edition, from the Metro Dade County Police Department, at a cost of $10,680, be approved. Funding is to be -.provided from the Police Department General Operating Budget, Index Code 290201-760. BACKGROUND: Police officers for the City of Miami Police Department are required to make on -the -spot decisions regarding the legality of a person's actions on a routine basis. One of the officers' best reference in varied instances is the Florida Law Enforcement Handbook - Dade County Edition. Metro Dade Police Department currently holds the copyright on these handbooks. 9G-- 7X
