HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-96-0068J-96-245 1/25/96 RESOLUTION NO.9 6 r 68 A RESOLUTION RELATED TO THE THIRTY THIRD ANNUAL COCONUT GROVE ARTS FESTIVAL, CONDUCTED BY THE COCONUT GROVE ASSOCIATION, INC., TO BE HELD ON FEBRUARY 17TH THROUGH FEBRUARY 19TH, 1996; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO PROVIDE IN -KIND SERVICES FROM THE DEPARTMENTS OF POLICE, FIRE -RESCUE AND GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION/SOLID WASTE, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $60,000 FOR SAID EVENT; SAID AUTHORIZATION CONDITIONED UPON THE ORGANIZERS: (1) PAYING FOR ALL OTHER NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES AND APPLICABLE FEES ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT; (2) OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE; (3) CONTRIBUTING A PUBLIC ART PROJECT COMMEMORATING THE CITY OF MIAMI'S CENTENNIAL; AND (4) COMPLYING WITH ALL CONDITIONS AND LIMITATIONS AS MAY BE PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE. WHEREAS, the Coconut Grove Arts Festival (the "Arts Festival") has provided the City of Miami with a hallmark event for the past thirty-two years; and WHEREAS, during that time, the Arts Festival has grown to be the largest celebration of its kind in the United States; and WHEREAS, this event is open and at no charge to Miami's f residents and visitors; and i WHEREAS, the Arts Festival has an estimated $20 million ! ipositive economic impact on the City of Miami; and .'REPSb LOS; AMCINDISD `W:IL, r WHEREAS, the Arts Festival hasrequested in -kind services from the Departments of Police, Fire- Rescue and General Services Administration/Solid Waste in an amount not to exceed $60,000, and in exchange thereof, has agreed to contribute to the City a public art project commemorating the City of Miami's Centennial, said project to consist of the beautification of the Bayshore Drive traffic median from McFarlane Road to Aviation Avenue; and WHEREAS, said public art project will serve as a commemoration of the City of Miami's Centennial and as a source of community pride for generations; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to provide in -kind services from the Departments of Police, Fire - Rescue and General Services Administration/Solid Waste in an amount not to exceed $60,000 for the Thirty -Third Annual Coconut Grove Arts Festival, sponsored by the Coconut Grove Association, Inc., to be held February 17th through February 19th, 1996. Section 2. The herein authorization is hereby conditioned upon the organizers (1) paying for all other necessary costs of City services and applicable fees associated with said event; (2) obtaining insurance to protect the City in the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee; (3) �- 68 contributing a public art project commemorating the City of Miami's Centennial; and (4) complying with all conditions and limitations as may be prescribed by the City Manager or his designee. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 25th day of January , 1996. x ` ST PHEN P.
