CLARK, MAYOR DATE: December 15, 1995 FILE AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COMMISSION SUBJECT: Two Appointments Needed to the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority FR Walter J.Jean REFERSNCEs : January 25 Agenda City Clerk ENCLOSURES: City Code Section 2-429 states, in part: "...When the nominating commissioner leaves office the board member's term shall expire." Former Commissioner De Yurre had nominated Steve Suarez, who was appointed by the City Commission as board member to the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority. Since the aforementioned nominating Commissioner has left office, Mr. Suarez's term has expired. The term(s) of office of board members shall run concurrently with the term of office of the Commissioner that nominates each member. Therefore, the nomination for appointment needed to fill the seat currently held by Mr. Suarez is to be made by Commissioner Carollo. At the last Commission meeting, Commissioner Carollo nominated Humberto Hernandez, who was appointed by the Commission as board member to the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority. Mr. Hernandez resigned from said appointment (copy of letter attached). Commissioner Carollo needs to make a nomination to fill the vacancy left by Mr. Hernandez' resignation. Please be aware that pursuant to City Code Section 52.6-3(b) members of the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority shall be qualified electors of Dade County. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting that the Agenda Office place this issue on the January 25, 1996 Commission agenda.
