ENCLOSURES:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the
attached resolution appointing three (3) public members to the Civil
Service Board, commencing January 12, 1996 for a term to expire on
January 11, 1998. Sec. 36, Civil Service, of the Charter and Code of
the City of Miami provides that three (3) of the five (5) Civil
Service Board Members shall be appointed by the Commission.
BACKGROUND
The term of office for the following three (3) public Civil Service
Board members expires January 11, 1996. (Resolution Nos. 94-31 and
95-276):
NAME
Rita E. Suarez
T. Willard Fair
(Filled unexpired term of the late
George H. Adams)
NOMINATED BY
Commissioner Willie Gort
Mayor Stephen P. Clark
(Commissioner Miller J. Dawkins)
Gerald Silverman Commissioner J.L. Plummer
The regular meetings of the Civil Service Board for the month of
January are scheduled for January 2, 16, and 30, 1996. To ensure
continuity in the seating of the new Board, it becomes essential that
the appointments be made at the meeting of January 11 as it is the
only regular Commission meeting scheduled for the month of January
and the same date on which the terms of the current Board members
expire. Additionally, the convening of the meeting of January 16,
1996 would not be adversely affected as we would have both elected
and appointed members present at the meeting.
