AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE IV OF CHAPTER 54 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING SECTION 54-91 "STREET CODESIGNATION" THEREBY AMENDING THE CRITERIA FOR THE CONSIDERATION OF PROPOSALS FOR STREET CODESIGNATION TO PROVIDE THAT NUMBERED STREETS SHALL NOT BE CODESIGNATED WITH THE NAMES OF LIVING INDIVIDUALS; CONTAINING A REPEALER PROVISION AND A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Section 54-91 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, entitled "Street Codesignation" establishes the criteria for the consideration of proposals for street codesignation; and WHEREAS, due to the limited number of streets available for honoring individuals, the City Commission has expressed a desire to limit the proposals for street codesignation presented to the Miami Street Codesignation Review Committee by prohibiting the codesignation of numbered streets with the names of living individuals; and WHEREAS, the City Commission, after careful consideration of this matter, deems it advisable and in the best interests of the general welfare of the City of Miami and its inhabitants to amend the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, as set forth herein; 11405 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. Section 54-91 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, is hereby amended in the following particulars 1 : "Sec. 54-91. Street codesignation. Section 2. If any section, or part of section, paragraph, clause, phrase or word of this Ordinance is declared invalid, the remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected. Section 3. All ordinances, or parts of ordinances insofar as they are inconsistent or in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 4. This Ordinance shall become effective thirty (30) days after final reading and adoption thereof. 'Words and/or figures stricken through shall be deleted. Underscored words and/or figures shall be added. The remaining provisions are now in effect and remain unchanged. Asterisks indicate omitted and unchanged material. Due to the limited number of streets available for honoring individuals, the City Commission, at the June 13, 1996 meeting, expressed a desire to limit the proposals for street codesignation presented to the codesignation committee by prohibiting the codesignation of a street after a living individual.
