INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: The Honorable Mayor and Members
of the City Commission
FROM
RECOMMENDATION:

SUBJECT: Proposed Ordinance

REFERENCES : HIDTA Asset Forfeiture Research
ENCLOSURES:
It is respectfully recommended that an Ordinance amending Ordinance No. 11262, which
established initial resources and initial appropriations for a Special Revenue Fund entitled:
"HIDTA Asset Forfeiture Research," accepting an additional grant from the Monroe County
Sheriff's Office, in the amount of $21,000.00 and appropriating said funds for the operation of
same, be adopted.
BACKGROUND:
The Miami Police Department is continuing its efforts at combating narcotics trafficking and
money laundering, through High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Grants (HIDTA). These grants
provide an additional incentive for the City of Miami Police Department to target organizations
involved in narcotics based on geographical location. This specific grant is being administered by
the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. The Miami Police Department's role will be to provide
public records research, perform public records searches, perform analytical investigations, and
assist in the analytical and forfeiture process through public records research for all HIDTA
members in need of such information. To accomplish this, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office has
authorized an additional $21,000.00 towards the payment of overtime and travel/training expenses.
No matching funds are required by the City of Miami.
