(October 10, 1996 Agenda) City Clerk ENCLOSURES (List of Members and Nominees) The Performing Arts Center Trust (PACT) was created to provide a broad source of community support for the proposed Performing Arts Center, Miami, Florida. PACT has one member from the City of Miami whose term expires on December 31, 1996. Said seat is presently filled by Henry T. Courtney. Appointments to PACT must be made from a slate of nominees provided by PACT's Nominating Committee (see attached section 6.6 of the Articles of Incorporation of PACT). By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office to place this issue as a discussion item on the October 10, 1996 Commission agenda. We respectfully request the Commission to nominate an individual to serve on the PACT. Our office will then submit said name to PACT for their Nominating Committee to consider. Any person who is a Qualified elector residing in Dade County may serve. The membership requirements of the PACT call for this Board of Directors to be representative of the community, reflecting the racial, ethnic, geographical and cultural composition of the community. PACT requests nominations to include a brief resume giving biographical data, past and present interest in cultural activities, and reason for nomination. The deadline for receipt of nominations is Thursday, October 3, 1996. Please note that the City of Miami Commssion At -Large is scheduled to make an appointment to this Board. The process requires that the City of Miami Commission At -Large choose from a slate of candidates forwarded to you fi-oan the Performing Arts Center Trust. The schedule for this nominations process is as follows: September 12, 1996 Legal advertisement through Metro -Dade County October 3, 1996 DEADLINE (4: 00 PM) for receipt of nominations in Cultural Affairs Council office October - December 1996 Appointing authorities approve Performing Arts Center Trust recommendations January 1997 New member(s) begin terms of office All aom�ations must be typewritten and include 15 copies each of a letter and brief resume giving biographical data, past and present interest in cultural activities, and reason for nomination. Final appointments will be made pursuant to the process outlined in the Trust's Articles of Incorporation. The five criteria followed for selection of nominees are: cultural involvement, community and organizational experience, relevant professional experience, community stature, and demographic factors. 7 b6- 778 �i Performing Arts Center Trust Nominations Process Excerpt from the Performing Arts Center Trust Articles of Incorporation 6.6. Nominating Committee The Nominating Committee shall consist of five voting members of the Corporation. At least thirty days prior to each annual meeting of the Corporation, and as frequently as is necessary to fill vacancies in unexpired terms of Directors, the Nominating Committee shall prepare and submit to the Board of County Commissioners and to the appropriate City Commissions or to the School Board a slate of nominees for the election of Directors. Other candidates whose consent has been obtained may be placed in nomination for expired terms by the written petition of any five voting members of the Corporation. Any such petition shall be filed with the Secretary at least fifteen days prior to the annual meeting and shall be announced with the Nominating Committee's slate to the Board of County Commissioners. For each vacancy the Nominating Committee shall submit the names of three nominees. The Board of County Commissioners, and each City Commission and the School Board will select one Director from the three names submitted by the Nominating Committee or other names duly submitted by petition. If the Board of County Commissioners, or either City Commission or the School Board dots not find the Nominating Committee's slate acceptable or any of the other names submitted to it by written petition acceptable, it may request the Nominating Committee to submit a new slate.
