Dear Commissioner Gort
I am one of the residents which property boundaries lie adjacent to plaza Street
and Marler Avenue, We purchased our home on September 1995 and for months I was
regularly visited by thieves. Every time they came, they took things from my yard
(lawnmower, 2 weed eaters, gardening rakes and tools, bicycle, deck wash and spreader,
etc), The first 2 times I had been robbed, I did not report it since our shed was not
locked. Upon awakening on January I" my workout bench weights and bar-b-que were
missing, we decided to put up a fence.
When the gentleman that was working on my fence was in my back yard, his wife
saw two men with an object in their hands walking into my yard. She began to scream and
he ran after them with his work tools. After having the fence installed, my husband and I
arrived late one evening and heard footsteps in my yard. Needless to say, I have a b foot
fence, sensor lights and purchased two dons from the pound. I do not sleep well.
I have actually witnessed a man take a la,,vrimower through Plaza Street which is
the lot right next door to my yard and squeeze it through the fence and take it down the
block.
My husband and I personally attended the meeting held with the Loquat residents
and Wally Lee wherein we agreed to a 50!50 split of Marler Avenue and taking it to the
next Commissioner's meeting (was to be held in the beginning of May). That meeting was
postponed for a June 13'hwherein Commissioner Dawkins motioned to open Marler
Avenue as an access road to St. Hughes Oaks Condominium.

I am shocked and appalled! i cannot believe that even tilougn tax paying,
registered voting residents that are in Complete agreements these properties can be
completely iglnored. A person that dots not even live in this locality can dictate a

Ila''e a condominium community that ha; alreadti' been built with ho„sing right on the
Mailer Avenue boundaries, there is no space for an entry access way. There are LIFE
Oak tree, right on the 25 f7ot alley which are environmentally protected.
Commissioner Dawkins argument is that we are trying to segregate the
community. That is most definitely not the case, my very best friend is Bahamian and I and
Cuban born married to at,. American and se
`regation is not our goal. bly main concern is
safety a,7d privacy and the betterment of our communities,
Please, do not grant Cornmissioner Day; Inns' :notion. We are not asking to close
the alley because of our South Grove neighbors, unfortunately tive have to close it of} for
drug abusers, indigents and thieves.
I ask you once again, when this issue is brought up in your next meeting, please
vote in our favor and not Commissioner Dawkins, This has been tossed about for over a
year and we, the UNITED residents of the West and South Grove ask you to put an end
to it and let our request be realized.
