Ike MhLmi Police Department has and will continue to be committed to the cmdication of graffiti
within the City of 119"a=L The Gang Detail bass been the pr 4rwy detail assigned to this task,
however the XeWiborhood P.uhan,cement Teams are also involved in this sane effort. The Gang
Detail has been conducting graffiti paintouts, in conjunction with other duties, since t987. Gang -•
Detail personnel perform the following,
+ Locate aad document grdffl i by photographs.
+ Contact victims and request authorization on waiver forms to paint -out the graffiti.
+ Work closely with the Miami Board. of Realtors Graffiti Task Force who have been lobbying
for new anti- gtaf6ti ordinances.
+ Obtain paint company sponsors to donate and mix paint.
+ Coordiwte awnthly meetings with citizens.
The Gang Detail personnel conduct two (2) graffiti paaintouts per month in conjunction with
i G.R.A.S.P. (Gang Reduction, Activities and Sports Prograain). Youth, from programs such as the
t Juvenile Alternative Sanctions System (JASS), and the Non Violence Project, also participate along
with youth who are ordered to serve community service hours by the Juvenile Courts. Several
businesses have provided support by providing materials to conduct the paaintouts.
On many occasions, the Gang Detail sets up surveillances on locations that were painted, and
attempts to apprehend vandals in progress. They use as video camera to record the incident and
present it as evidence in court, to enhance the chances of a conviction.
The gmM problem within the City of Miami is moderate, however it is a serious problem that
causes rapid deterioration of property values and attracts more crime. The longer the graffiti stays
up the more the arm suffers from the crime atmosphere it creates. The Police Department will
continue it's efforts in resolving this increasing situation.

The following is s list of equipment and supplies that will enhance our abilities to eradicate these
serious problems.
• (3) Pickup Trucks to transport paint supplies. (North, Central and South)
(3) Power Paint sprayers - (Battery powered)
• $20,040.00 for miscellaneous materials, such as rollers, brushes, paint pans, tarps, and
ruts.
The graff d problem within the City of Miami is moderate compared to other cities, however it is a
serious problem that heeds to be addressed. The longer the graffiti stays on the walls, poles,
fences, etc., the more the area suffers from the crfim atmosphere it creates.
