congratulating the City of Miami on its 100th Birthday.
If possible, I would ask the Mayor and or Commissioner Plummer as Chairperson of the
Centennial to make mention of this resolution at the February 29, 1996 Commission
Meeting.

RESOLUTION NO. 2374
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SWEETWATER, FLORIDA,
CONGRATULATING THE CITY OF MIAMI ON ITS
100TH BIRTHDAY; PROVIDING FOR TRANS-
MITTAL AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on July 28, 1896, 344 men gathered in a room over a pool hall to
take the official action which gave birth to the City of Miami; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Miami is the largest municipality in Dade County,
Florida and is one of 27 municipalities that make up the large metropolitan area more
familiarly known throughout the world as "Miami, Florida"; and,
WHEREAS, this year marks the 100th Anniversary of the City of Miami and
from early pioneering days to present, the City of Miami has developed into a great
international center for financial, cultural, tourist and civic interests and is well known
far and wide as a truly international city; and,
WHEREAS, special activities have been planned to celebrate the occasion of
Us anniversary and it is fitting that the City of Sweetwater should join in this joyous
celebration:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SWEETWATER, FLORIDA as follows:
SECTION 1. That the Mayor and Council of the City of Sweetwater, on behalf
of all its residents and its business community, wish to be among the first to convey to
the City of Miami a resounding "IIAPPY PI.RTHDA Y" on this the anniversary
of its 100th year of existence.,
SECTION 2. That the Mayor and Council extend their personal
congratulations to the City of Miami and their wishes for continued growth and
prosperity.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk is directed to forward a copy of this

resolution to The Honorable Stephen P Clark, Mayor of the City of Miami, and to each
member of the City of Miami Commission.
SECTION 4. That this resolution shall become effective upon its adoption by
the City Council and approval by the Mayor or if vetoed, upon its reenactment by the
City Council as provided by the Charter of the City of Sweetwater.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 5th day of February , 1996.
