City of Miami Affordable Housing
Advisory Committee

City Code Section 2-429 states, in part:
"...When the nominating commissioner leaves office the board member's
term shall expire."
Former Commissioner De Yurre had nominated Jose R. Alonso, who was appointed by the
City Commission as board member to the City of Miami Affordable Housing Advisory
Committee. Since the aforementioned nominating Commissioner has left office, Mr. Alonso's
term has expired. The term(s) of office of board members shall run concurrently with the term
of office of the Commissioner that nominates each member. Therefore, the nomination for
appointment needed to fill the seat currently held by Mr. Alonso is to be made by
Commissioner Carollo. Please note that this appointment is for a citizen who is actively
engaged in the banking or mortgage Industry.
Al Townsel, appointed by the City Commission at large through a nomination by Mr. Cesar
Odio, does not comply with the residency requirement pursuant to City Code Section 2-428.
Said requirement may be waived by a four -fifths vote of the City Commission.
By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting that the Agenda Office place this issue on the
January 25, 1996 Commission agenda. For your information, attached please find a copy of
the current membership of said Board.
