RESOLUTION NO. 9 7- 892
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FUNDING OF THE
COCONUT GROVE PLAYHOUSE FOR THE PRESENTATION OF A
PLAY IN CONJUNCTION WITH THEIR IN -SCHOOL TOURING
PROGRAM, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $100,000;
ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE LAW
ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NO. 690003, SUCH
EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF
POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE
TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING."
WHEREAS, the Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" authorizes the
expenditures of shared cash or proceeds forfeited for law enforcement purposes; and
WHEREAS, a large number of students from the City of Miami and Dade County have
experienced disruption in their lives due to crime and domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, young people are challenged by their culture, environment and family situations
which can lead them to attempting to solve problems through violence, substance abuse or crime;
and
WHEREAS, the theater is an effective medium for the transmission of information to
students regarding critical issues related to crime and domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, five prior productions, "Going for the Win", "Agape", 'BX Blue",*'Breaking
the Cycle", and "Burning Dreams" were highly successful and were presented to over 200,000
students; and

WHEREAS, the Coconut Grove Playhouse will be producing another play to be presented
in area schools; and
WHEREAS, the cast members will be trained in counseling and will conduct post -
performance discussions; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has
certified that the expenditures comply with the U.S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to
Equitable Sharing"; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are hereby
adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. Funding of the Coconut Grove Playhouse for the presentation of a play in
conjunction with their In -School Touring Program, in an amount not to exceed $100,000, is hereby
authorized, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project
Number 690003, such expenditure having been certified by the Chief of Police as complying with
the Department of Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing."
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.
