HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-97-0862J-97-826 11/21/97 RESOLUTION NO. 9 % 862 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FUNDING FOR THE SPONSORSHIP OF THE HISPANIC AMERICAN POLICE COMMAND OFFICERS ASSOCIATION (HAPCOA) 25TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE, IN THE AMOUNT OF $10,000.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NO. 690003, SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS COMPLYING WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING." WHEREAS, the Department of Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" authorizes the expenditure of shared cash or proceeds for law enforcement purposes; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami has been chosen, along with the City of Miami Beach, and Metropolitan Dade County, to be tri-host of the Hispanic American Police Command Officers Association (HAPCOA) 25" Annual Conference to be held in 1998; and WHEREAS, the conference will address the needs of law enforcement agencies to improve police -community relations and foster career opportunities for Hispanic police officers; and WHEREAS, funds to cover said expenditure are available from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690003, such expenditure having been certified by the Chief of Police as complying with the U.S. Department of Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing;" CITY COISSI MEETING OF DEC 0 9 M7 ; RewiUvnn 13a j 9 7 - 862 .` NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Funding for the sponsorship of the Hispanic American Police Command Officers Association (HAPCOA) 251h Annual Conference, in the amount of $10,000.00, is hereby authorized, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690003 such expenditures having been certified by the Chief of Police as complying with the Department of Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing." Funding is to be provided from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund. BACKGROUND: The City of Miami along with the City of Miami Beach and Metropolitan Dade County will be tri- hosting the 25' Annual Hispanic American Police Command Officers Association (HAPCOA) Conference. HAPCOA is a consortium of close to five hundred (500) law enforcement executives and criminal justice professionals from throughout the United States.
