HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-97-085911 J-97-837 11/21/97 RESOLUTION NO. 9 7- 8 5 9 A RESOLUTION APPROVING AN INCREASE IN THE CONTRACT WITH KNOWLES ANIMAL CLINIC, IN THE AMOUNT OF $30,800,00, FOR THE PROVISION OF VETERINARY SERVICES FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S K-9 UNIT, ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S GENERAL OPERATING BUDGET, ACCOUNT CODE NO. 001000.290201.6,260; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AMENDMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, TO SAID CONTRACT TO REFLECT THIS INCREASE. WHEREAS, Resolution No. 95-785, adopted October 31, 1995, accepted the bid of Knowles Animal Clinic for the provision of veterinary services to the Department of Police for a one year period, at a cost of $16,800, with the option to extend for two additional one year periods; and WHEREAS, the contract is in the second option period and, due to the need for expanded veterinary services for the K-9 Unit, not contemplated in the original contract, it is necessary to increase the contract by $30,800, and WHEREAS, these additional services include special medications, dental care, chronic care treatment, and special prescription diets under certain circumstances; and WHEREAS, these veterinary services are necessary for the continued good health and well being of the Police Department's K-9 Unit dogs; and CITY Comamon MEETING OF DEC 0 9 jM7 Aesoautkm 9 7 - 859 • WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Chief of Police recommend this increase; and WHEREAS, funds for said increase are available from the Police Department General Operating Budget, Account Code 001000.290201.6.260; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this section. Section 2. An increase in the contract with Knowles Animal Clinic, in the amount of $30,900.00, for the provision of veterinary services for the Police Department's K-9 Unit, is hereby approved, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Police Department's General Operating Budget, Account Code 001000.290201.6.260. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized' to execute an amendment, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, to said contract to reflect this increase. Section 4. Funding is to be provided from the Police General Operating Budget, from Account Code 001000.290201.6.260. BACKGROUND: The Department of Police is requesting an increase in the contract for veterinary services for the Department's K-9 dogs' physicals. The increase is necessary to include those additional services not covered by this contract. These additional services include medicine, dental and treatment for chronic care and/or special or prescription diet for the canine longer than the five (5) continuous days now covered under the existing contract. TO ISSUE A PURCHASE ORDER FOR SAID SERVICE AND THEREAFTER TO EXTEND 'SAID SERVICE. FOR TWO (2) ADDITIONAL ONE (1) YEAR PERIODS AT THE SAME PRICE, TERMS, AND CONDITIONS, SUBJECT TO THE AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS. . Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to instruct the Chief Procurement Officer to issue a purchase order for said service, and thereafter to extend said service for two (2) additional one (1) year periods at the same price, terms and conditions, subject to the availability of funds.
