A RESOLUTION APPROVING AN INCREASE IN THE CONTRACT
WITH KNOWLES ANIMAL CLINIC, IN THE AMOUNT OF
$30,800,00, FOR THE PROVISION OF VETERINARY SERVICES
FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S K-9 UNIT, ALLOCATING
FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S
GENERAL OPERATING BUDGET, ACCOUNT CODE NO.
001000.290201.6,260; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
EXECUTE AN AMENDMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE
CITY ATTORNEY, TO SAID CONTRACT TO REFLECT THIS
INCREASE.
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 95-785, adopted October 31, 1995, accepted the bid of
Knowles Animal Clinic for the provision of veterinary services to the Department of Police for a
one year period, at a cost of $16,800, with the option to extend for two additional one year periods;
and
WHEREAS, the contract is in the second option period and, due to the need for expanded
veterinary services for the K-9 Unit, not contemplated in the original contract, it is necessary to
increase the contract by $30,800, and
WHEREAS, these additional services include special medications, dental care, chronic care
treatment, and special prescription diets under certain circumstances; and
WHEREAS, these veterinary services are necessary for the continued good health and well
being of the Police Department's K-9 Unit dogs; and

WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Chief of Police recommend this increase; and
WHEREAS, funds for said increase are available from the Police Department General
Operating Budget, Account Code 001000.290201.6.260;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are hereby
adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this section.
Section 2. An increase in the contract with Knowles Animal Clinic, in the amount of
$30,900.00, for the provision of veterinary services for the Police Department's K-9 Unit, is hereby
approved, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Police Department's General Operating
Budget, Account Code 001000.290201.6.260.
Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized' to execute an amendment, in a form
acceptable to the City Attorney, to said contract to reflect this increase.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.

SUBJECT: Proposed Resolution
REFERENCES: K-9 Veterinary Services
ENCLOSURES:
It is respectfully recommended that a Resolution amending Resolution No. 95-785, to increase the
amount approved from $16,800.00 to $30,800.00, for the provision of K-9 Veterinary Services
from Knowles Animal Clinic, be approved. Funding is to be provided from the Police General
Operating Budget, from Account Code 001000.290201.6.260.
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Police is requesting an increase in the contract for veterinary services for the
Department's K-9 dogs' physicals. The increase is necessary to include those additional services
not covered by this contract. These additional services include medicine, dental and treatment for
chronic care and/or special or prescription diet for the canine longer than the five (5) continuous
days now covered under the existing contract. These veterinary services are necessary for the
continued health and well being of the Police Department's K-9 dogs.

SERVICES FOR ONE (1) YEAR WITH THE OPTION TO
EXTEND FOR TWO (2) ADDITIONAL ONE (1) YEAR
PERIODS, FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE,:AT A
TOTAL PROPOSED FIRST YEAR COST OF $16,800.00;
ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE POLICE
DEPARTMENT GENERAL OPERATING BUDGET,
INDEX CODE 290201-260; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE CHIEF PROCUREMENT
OFFICER. TO ISSUE A PURCHASE ORDER FOR SAID
SERVICE AND THEREAFTER TO EXTEND 'SAID
SERVICE. FOR TWO (2) ADDITIONAL ONE (1) YEAR
PERIODS AT THE SAME PRICE, TERMS, AND
CONDITIONS, SUBJECT TO THE AVAILABILITY OF
FUNDS. .
WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received August 14,
1995 for the Veterinary Services for a period of one (1) year with the option to extend
for two (2) additional one (1) year periods for the Department of Police; and
WHEREAS, invitations for Bid No. 94-95.185 were mailed to four (4) potential
bidders and one (1) responsive bid was received; and
WHEREAS, veterinary services are necessary for the continued health and well
being of the Police Department's K-9 dogs; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Chief of Police recommend that the bid
received from Knowles Animal Clinic be accepted as the lowest responsive and
responsible bid; and
WHEREAS, funds for said service are available from the Police Department
General Operating Budget, Index Code 290201-260

OF MIAMI,fLORIDA:

of veterinary services for one (1) year with the option to exterid for two (2) additional
one (1) year periods, for the Department of.Police, at a total proposed first year cost of
$16,800.00, is hereby accepted, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Police
Department General Operating Budget, index Code 290201-260.
Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to instruct the Chief
Procurement Officer to issue a purchase order for said service, and thereafter to extend
said service for two (2) additional one (1) year periods at the same price, terms and
conditions, subject to the availability of funds.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
adoption.
