A RESOLUTION BY A FOUR -FIFTHS (4/5THS) AFFIRMATIVE
VOTE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COMMISSION,
RATIFYING, APPROVING, AND CONFIRMING THE CITY
MANAGER'S FINDING OF AN EMERGENCY, WAIVING THE
REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPETITIVE SEALED BIDS, AND
APPROVING THE EMERGENCY REPAIRS TO THE ROBOTIC
SILO IN THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
FROM STORAGETEK, IN THE AMOUNT OF $19,040.82;
ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM ACCOUNT CODE
001000.460101.6.670; FURTHER, RATIFYING, APPROVING
AND CONFIRMING THE CITY MANAGER'S ISSUANCE OF AN
EMERGENCY PURCHASE ORDER FOR THIS .REPAIR.
WHEREAS, the Department of Information Technology had an emergency on
October 30, 1997, when the channel extender on .the robotic silo broke, causing the
system to shutdown; and
WHEREAS, the robotic silo is responsible for computer backup to the mainframe
computer and individuals PC's;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1 . The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution
are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. By an affirmative vote of four -fifths (4/5ths) of the members of the
City Commission, ratifying, approving and confirming the City Manager's finding of an

emergency, waiving the requirements for competitive sealed bids, and approving the
emergency repair to the robotic silo in the Information Technology Department, from
Storagetek, in the amount of $19,040.82, with funds therefor hereby allocated from
Account Code 00 1000.460101.6.670.
Section 3. The City Manager's issuance of an emergency purchase order for this
purpose is further ratified, approved and confirmed.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached
resolution by authorizing the acquisition of emergency repairs to the robotic
silo in the Information Technology Department, in the amount of $19,040.82.
Funds are hereby allocated from Account No. 001000.460101.6.670. The City
Manager is authorized to instruct the Chief Procurement Officer to issue the
necessary purchase order for said purpose.
BACKGROUND:
The Information Technology Department had an emergency in the robotic
silo on Wednesday, October 30, 1997. This machinery is responsible for
computer backup to the mainframe and PC data. Due to the necessary
retention of vital information on these computers, emergency repairs were
required to assure there was no loss of data.

The Information Technology Department had an emergency in the robotic
silo on Wednesday, October 30, 1997. This machinery is responsible for
computer backup to the mainframe and PC data. Due to the necessary
retention of vital information on these computers, emergency repairs were
requested and approved by the City Manager.
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission approve the
attached resolution authorizing the purchase of emergency repairs to the
robotic silo at a cost of $19,040.82. Funds are hereby allocated from Account
