HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-97-0736I--] J-97-729 10/14/97 RESOLUTION NO. 9 7— 736 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FUNDING, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $35,000.00, FOR THE HAVING UNDERSTANDING GUIDANCE & SUPPORT (H.U.G.S.) PROJECT AND ALLOCATING SAID FUNDS THEREFOR, FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND, PROJECT NO. 690003, SAID EXPENDITURE HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AS BEING IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TREASURY'S "GUIDE TO EQUITABLE SHARING". WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing" authorizes the expenditure of forfeited cash or proceeds for certain law enforcement purposes; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Police Department continues to be committed to the education and development of the youth of our community; and WHEREAS, the Having Understanding Guidance & Support (H.U.G.S.) Project will provide the youth of the City of Miami with the necessary skills and positive environment that are needed to become productive and responsible citizens; and WHEREAS, the H.U.G.S. Project will provide academic tutoring, skills building workshops, individual and group counseling, mentoring, and supportive interaction; and WHEREAS, funds to cover this expenditure have not been included in the Police Department's normal operating budget and • r' OCT 14W7 (� iiseolutiou No. 97- are available in the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund; and WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of the herein Resolution and has determined that the expenditure proposed complies with the U.S. Department of Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing"; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Funding, in the amount of $35,000.00, for the Having Understanding Guidance & Support (H.U.G.S.) Project is hereby authorized, with saids funds therefor hereby allocated from the City of Miami Law Enforcement Trust Fund, Project No. 690003, said expenditure having been certified by the Chief of Police as being in compliance with the U.S. Department of Treasury's "Guide to Equitable Sharing". Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. - 2 - 97- 736 0 PASSED AND ADOPTED this 14th day of October , 1997.
