RESOLUTION NO. 9 7- 734
A RESOLUTION RELATING TO IMPLEMENTATION OF
CHARTER AMENDMENT NO. 1; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO PAY AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED SIX
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($6,000) TO THE U.S. POSTAL
SERVICE, FOR MASS MAILING OF NOTICES TO CITY
OF MIAMI VOTERS OF ELECTION PRECINCTS SPLIT
BY THEIR NEW CITY COMMISSION DISTRICT
DESIGNATION; AND ALLOCATING FUNDS IN AN
AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED SAID AMOUNT FROM ACCOUNT
CODE NO. 921102-534.
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 97-447 put before the electorate
Charter Amendment No. 1, which provided for an Executive Mayor
(elected at -large) and five City Commissioners from single -
member districts; and
WHEREAS, said charter amendment was approved by the
electorate of the City of Miami on September 4, 1997; and
WHEREAS, in the upcoming November 4, 1997, Nonpartisan
Primary Election, electors will be voting for an Executive Mayor
(at -large) and, in Districts I, III and V, respectively, district
city commissioners; and
WHEREAS, the aforementioned single -member city commission
district's boundary lines do not coincide with all existing City

of Miami voting precinct boundaries, and has resulted in twenty-
one (21) "split" precincts; and
WHEREAS, budgetary constraints imposed on the Metropolitan
the Dade County Elections Department made it necessary for the
Office of the City Clerk to undertake notification of the thirty-
six thousand four hundred and twenty-one (36,421) registered
voters of those twenty-one (21) split precincts regarding their
specific city commission district designation, in order for the
Metropolitan Dade County Elections Department to properly
effectuate the City of Miami's inaugural single -member district
election process at the polls on election day;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to pay
to the U.S. Postal Service, an amount not to exceed $6,000, for
mailing costs incurred by the City Clerk during voter
notification of "split" precincts occasioned by implementation of
Charter Amendment No. 1., with funds therefor hereby allocated
from Account Code No. 921102-534 for said purpose.

Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.
