J ES, I I CITY AT EY W1563:BSS comenzon 0 C T 14 1997 Resolution No. L97- 733 ® CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA TO : The Honorable Members of the City Commission FROM City INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM • 47 DATE : May 12, 1 997 FILE : SUaIECT : Two Appointments Needed to the Code Enforcement Board REFERENCES : (June 12,1997 Agenda) ENCLOSURES: (List of Members) The Code Enforcement Board was created to issue orders having the force of law commanding whatever steps are necessary to bring a Code violation into compliance. Florida Statutes 162.05(2) requires members of the Code Enforcement Board to be residents of the City of Miami. City Code Section 2-812 states that whenever possible, the board is to consist of an architect, a businessperson, an engineer, a general contractor, a subcontractor, and a realtor. All members serve three year terms. City Code states that the Code Enforcement Board consists of seven regular members and two alternate members. The City Code (Section 2-812) does not address which members of the Commission appoints each seat on the board. Traditionally, the nine appointments have been divided amongst the Commission by having each Commissioner make two nominations for appointments and the Mayor make one nomination for appointment. The alternate members are presently being nominated for appointment by Commissioners in Group IN and Group V (Commissioners Plummer and Hernandez), respectively. Two appointments are needed at this time: • Mayor Carollo has one nomination for a seat currently vacant because Victor Haber, who had been nominated by former Mayor Clark and whose tern expired February 10, 1997, was absent excessively. • Commissioner Plummer has one nomination for seat currently vacant due to the resignation of Deborah Valledor. For your information, attached please find a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting that the Agenda Office place this issue on the June 12, 1997 Commission agenda.
