It is respectfully recommended that a Resolution authorizing funding, in the amount of
$100,000.00, for the Crime Prevention Program, be approved. Funding is to be provided from the
Law Enforcement Trust Fund, from Project Number 690003.
BACKGROUND:
The Miami Police Department encourages the citizens of the community to participate in the
prevention and detection of crime. For this reason, the Police Department has regularly sponsored
and supported such groups as the Citizens Crime Watch, Youth Crime Watch, Model City Crime
Prevention, Informed Families of Dade County, Kids for Peace, the Miami Senior High JROTC
Parents Association and other organizations devoted to the prevention of crime.
In an effort to efficiently combat crime, the Police Department must regularly update its equipment
and programs with innovative items and ideas. The Crime Prevention Program has been utilized to
purchase state of the art equipment and offer financial support to crime prevention programs not
regularly budgeted by the Police Department.
