O CITY CLERK APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: YY1 / J / . 1712J - 2 - 97 512 CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA 12 INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and Members DATE ; July 15, 1997 FILE RCityManag Fr sion SUBJECT: Miamarina at Bayside: Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Complete the renovations FROM: REFERENCES: to the Dockmaster's Offices, Bathroom ENCLOSURES: Laundry Facilities, and Installing a Floating Dock. RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution authorizing the City Manager to proceed with. the necessary steps to complete the renovations to the Dockmaster's offices, bathroom and restrooms facilities and the acquisition and installation of a floating docks. Further authorizing the City Manager to seek informal quotes and award the contract to the lowest and most responsible bidder. BACKGROUND The new 104 slip marina at Miamarina at Bayside is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month, and we anticipate annual revenues in excess of $1 million. Upon completion, the Miamarina will be a first class marina that will serve both the general public and tourist and will be a source of pride to the City of Miami and it's residents. It is our intention to operate this marina with the highest level of service that is to be expected of a marina of this caliber. Because of issues concerning whether the City of Miami or Bayside had responsibility for renovating said facilities, the construction project did not include funding for the necessary renovations. These lease issues with Bayside have now been resolved. We seek the City Commission's approval to proceed immediately with the renovations in order to coincide with the completion of the new marina. Additionally, we request authorization to acquire and install approximately one hundred (100) foot floating dock to accommodate small pleasure boats for short term dockage. There is a need to provide suitable docking for small vessels visiting the Bayside Marketplace. This is a year round use with peak periods during weekends. A preliminary analysis indicates that the cost will be recuperated within the first eighteen months of usage. The original plans for the construction of the new marina included a floating dock. Due to lack of funding at the time, the floating docks were removed from the project. The Department of Public Works has provided an estimate for the renovations to the facilities and the floating dock in an amount not to exceed $180,000. The funding source is Capital Improvement Project No. 413403, entitled Miamarina Dockmaster's Office Renovations. \JV, 97- 512 1
