HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-97-0341J-97-395 5/22/97 RESOLUTION NO. ��r�_ 3 4 A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A DONATION FROM NIKE TO REFURBISH FOUR BASKETBALL COURTS AT HADLEY PARK VALUED AT $60,000 FOR USE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, AT ACCEPT SAID DONATION. WHEREAS, the City of Miami acknowledges NIKE, the sportswear and footwear manufacturer, for their contribution and good will to the city's youth; and WHEREAS, NIKE, through their Southern Regional Marketing Manager, has generously agreed to beautify Hadley Park by refurbishing the basketball courts to benefit city youth; and WHEREAS, NIKE has invited residents and employees of the city to participate in a special community drive by donating their athletic shoes so they may be recycled into material used to resurface the courts; and WHEREAS, WBA basketball superstar and NIKE spokesperson, Alonzo Mourning, is scheduled to dedicate the soon -to -be resurfaced courts this July for use by city youth; WHEREAS, the City of Miami commends NIKE for their sense of corporate responsibility and hopes to enter into future partnerships to improve city parks for the benefit of the citizens; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: CITY COMMSSION MEETING OF, MAY 2 2 1997 Resolution No. 97— v�� v Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. A donation from NIKE to refurbish four basketball courts at Hadley Park, valued at $60,000, for the Department of Parks and Recreations, is hereby accepted. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized' to execute the necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, to accept said donation. Section 4.
