HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-97-0315J-97-255 4/25/97 RESOLUTION NO.07-_ 315 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, WITH THE "ICE ARENA" AND THE "MALIBU GRAND PRIX" ATTRACTIONS FOR CONDUCTING ONE EACH FIELD TRIP AS PART OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE CITY OF MIAMI'S 1997 SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM, AT A TOTAL ESTIMATED COST FOR BOTH ATTRACTIONS OF $13,080; SAID COSTS TO BE FULLY COVERED BY CAMP FEE REVENUES PAID BY THE APPROXIMATELY 1,090 CAMP ATTENDEES. WHEREAS, each year, the City of Miami Department of Parks and Recreation offers a fee paying summer recreation camp for children 7-13 years of age featuring a strict counselor/camper ratio, early drop and late pickup, a variety of indoor/outdoor recreational activities including swimming, arts and crafts, summer olympic games as well as field trips; and WHEREAS, based on last year's attendance figures, it is projected that as many as 1,090 children may register in the 1997 summer recreation camps which will include attending one field trip to the "Ice Arena" and one field trip to the "Malibu Grand Prix"; and WHEREAS, the cost of the "Ice Arena" field trip is $5,00 per child for admission and rental of skates and the cost of the "Malibu Grand Prix" field trip is $7.00 per child for admission, 10 tokens, 2 slices of pizza, 1 coke, 1 game of golf, and 1 Go-cart ride; and WHEREAS, a portion of the fees collected from the registered children is utilized to fully cover the costs of these field trips; CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF MAY 0 7 1997 Resolution No. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE. COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized' to execute a contract with the "lee Arena" and the "Malibu Grand Prix" attractions for conducting one each field trip as part of the activities of the City of Miami's 1997 Summer Camp Program, at a total estimated cost for both activities of $13,080, such costs to be fully covered from camp fee revenues paid by approximately 1,090 camp attendees. The costs of the .field .1 trips to both attractions will be fully covered by the camp fees paid by the approximate 1,090 children expected to attend. In addition, the Resolution authorizes the City Manager to instruct the Chief Procurement Officer to issue the required Purchase Orders for this purpose. BACKGROUND: Each year, the City of Miami Department of Parks and Recreation offers fee paying Summer Recreation Camps for children 7-13 years of age. These camps feature a variety of indoor/outdoor recreational activities which include swimming, arts & crafts, summer olympic games and field trips. A strict counselor/camper ratio and placement of participants by age group are featured in these camps. The fees for these camps are $40.00 per week for each city resident child ($34.00 for an additional child) and $50.00 per week for each non -city resident child ($42.00 for an additional child). Last year, approximately 1,090 children were registered in the fee paying summer camps. As in previous years, children registered in these Camps will be able to attend field trips to "Ice Arena" and to "Malibu Grand Prix" attractions. The cost per child for the "Ice Arena" is $5.00 and $7.00 for "Malibu Grand Prix". The appropriate portion of the revenues generated from summer camp fees will fully cover the $13,080 total cost for these two (2) field trips. 97- 315
