RESOLUTION NO. 9 7- 268
A RESOLUTION RELATED TO THE COCONUT GROVE BED
RACE TO BE CONDUCTED ON MAY 18, 1997, BY THE
MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION; AUTHORIZING A
ONE -DAY PERMIT FOR THE SALE OF BEER, WINE AND
FROZEN TROPICAL ALCOHOLIC DRINKS IN THE AREA
DURING SAID EVENT, SUBJECT TO THE ISSUANCE OF
ALL PERMITS REQUIRED BY LAW; CONDITIONING ALL
APPROVALS AND AUTHORIZATIONS GRANTED HEREIN
UPON THE ORGANIZERS: (1) PAYING FOR ALL OTHER
NECESSARY COSTS OF CITY SERVICES AND
j APPLICABLE FEES ASSOCIATED WITH SAID EVENT;
(2) OBTAINING INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE CITY
IN THE AMOUNT AS PRESCRIBED BY THE CITY
MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE; AND (3) INSTITUTING
AN IDENTIFICATION PROGRAM TO ASSURE THAT ONLY
{ THOSE INDIVIDUALS OVER THE AGE OF TWENTY-ONE
j MAY PURCHASE ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES.
WHEREAS, the Muscular Dystrophy Association will conduct the
1997 Coconut Grove Bed Race on May 18, 1997; and
WHEREAS, the Muscular Dystrophy Association has requested
permission to sell frozen tropical alcoholic drinks, beer and
wine during said event;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The request of the Muscular Dystrophy
Association, to sell beer, wine and frozen tropical alcoholic
drinks for a one -day period in connection with the Coconut Grove
Bed Race to be conducted on Sunday, May 18, 1997 from 7:00 A.M.
to 7:00 P.M., in the area of McFarlane Road, Grand Avenue and

South Bayshore Drive to Southwest Twenty-seventh Avenue in
Coconut Grove, Miami, Florida, is hereby granted subject to the
issuance of a temporary permit to sell alcoholic beverages by the
Florida Department of Business Regulation, Division of Alcohol
Beverages and Tobacco, pursuant to City Code Section 54-12.1 of
the Code of the City of Miami.
Section 2. The herein approvals and authorizations are
hereby conditioned upon the organizers: (1) paying for all other
necessary costs of City services and applicable fees associated
with said event; (2) obtaining insurance to protect the City in
the amount as prescribed by the City Manager or his designee; and
(3) instituting an identification program to assure that only
those individuals over the age of twenty-one may purchase
alcoholic beverages.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 2nd day of -April 1997.

We request to be placed on the agenda for the first City Commissioners meeting scheduled
on April. As we have in the past, we are again seeking permission for a Frozen Tropical
Alcohol Drink permit for the 19th annual Coconut Grove Bed Race, which will be held on
May 18, 1997.

PERSONAL APPEARANCE:
The Muscular Dystrophy Association has requested an appearance before the City Commission
to obtain authorization for the sale of alcoholic beverages in connection with the Coconut Grove
Bed Race to be held on Sunday, May 18, 1997.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission grant their request by authorizing the
sale 'of frozen tropical alcoholic beverages,. beer and wine in connection with the aforementioned
event.
BACKGROUND:
The Special Events Conunittee, including the Police and Fire -Rescue Departments, has met with
the Muscular Dystrophy Association to discuss city services and fees related to the race. The
Muscular Dystrophy Association will obtain all the appropriate permits and provide insurance as
prescribed by the City of Miami.
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission grant the request of the Muscular
Dystrophy Association. This authorization has been granted by the City Commission for their
