HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-97-0197_J 4j\ J-97-143 3/19/97 RESOLUTION NO. 9 7 - 197 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT OF FUNDS, IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $223,393.33, TO METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY, TO COVER THE COSTS OF TWO CITY OF MIAMI SPECIAL ELECTIONS HELD ON JULY 23, 1996 AND SEPTEMBER 3, 1996, ONE CITY OF MIAMI NONPARTISAN PRIMARY ELECTION HELD ON NOVEMBER 5, 1996, AND ONE CITY OF MIAMI REGULAR ELECTION HELD ON NOVEMBER 14, 1996; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND ACCOUNTS, ACCOUNT CODE NO. 001000.921102.6.270. WHEREAS, the City of Miami held four elections in 1996 in order to fill vacancies for Mayor, Group II and Group V Commissioners; and WHEREAS,, the Supervisor of Elections for Metropolitan Dade County determines location of all precincts, provides all voting equipment, and engages all election clerks, inspectors, etc., for ail municipal elections; and WHEREAS, all municipalities must reimburse Metropolitan Dade County for the expenses of holding municipal elections; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Ordinance No. 11372, adopted June 14, 1996, a Special Election was held on July 23, 1996, at a cost of $110,880.67, to fill the Group I Mayoral position, due to the passing of Mayor Stephen P. Clark; and CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF MAR 2 7 1997 Resolution No. 97-y 197 L WHEREAS, as a result of said Election, Commissioner Joe Carollo was elected as Mayor, thereby creating a vacancy for the Group II Commission position; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Ordinance No. 11388, adopted July 30, 1996, a Special Election was held on September 3, 1996, at a cost of $2,314.00, and Tomas Regalado was elected to fill the Group II Commission position vacated by Commissioner Joe Carollo; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Ordinance No. 11396, adopted September 16, 1996, and Ordinance No. 11397, subsequently adopted on September 26, 1996, a Nonpartisan Primary Election was held on November 5, 1996, at a cost of $1,523.00, to determine the candidates for the Group V Commission position, due to the suspension by the Governor of Commissioner Miller J. Dawkins; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Ordinance No. 11397, adopted September 26, 1996, a Regular Election was held on November 14, 1996, at a cost of $108,675.66, for the election of the Group V Commission position; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Payment to Metropolitan Dade County, in an amount not to exceed $223,393.33, is hereby authorized to cover - 2 - L 9'7 - 19'7 the costs of two City of Miami Special Elections held on July 23, 1996 and September 3, 1996, one City of Miami Nonpartisan Primary Election held on November 5, 1996, and one City of Miami Regular Election held on November 14, 1996, with funds therefor hereby allocated from Special Programs and Accounts, Account Code No. 001000.921102.6.270. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
