While we are inclined to focus on his tremendous accomplishment in building Ryder System from scratch, his other efforts in the community are also significant, which the Commission included in the resolution. I had the great opportunity to travel with my father during the late 1940s and 1950s while he was growing the truck leasing business and what I'll always remember the most is his way with people, from executives, to truck -washers, to secretaries, to mechanics. A greasy hand never deterred him and his natural introduction was "Hi, I'm Jim Ryder ... what's your name?" Please thank the Mayor and the Commission on behalf of our family and his friends. I have s•nt about 20 copies to those closest to him. cerely, rJaes A. Ryder, Jr. WALTER 1• FOEMAN City Clerk James A.
