HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-97-0184J-97-150 02/04/97 RESOLUTION NO. 9 7— 184 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT PSYCHOLOGICAL AND COUNSELING ASSOCIATES, INC., FOR A PERIOD OF TWO (2) YEARS, TO CONDUCT STRESS TRAINING FOR OFFICERS AND PARTNERS FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $47,250.00, FROM THE STRESS TRAINING FOR OFFICERS AND PARTNERS ("S.T.O.P.") GRANT. WHEREAS, the Department of Police intends to enhance its Employee Assistance Program by instituting mandatory counseling sessions for all officers during their first year of employment; and WHEREAS, this program will also be available to the employee's family; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice has approved a Stress Training for Officers and Partners ("S.T.O.P.") Grant in the amount of $47,250.00, to contract Law Enforcement Psychological and Counseling Associates, Inc., for the provision of these services; and WHEREAS, there is no match required of the City of Miami; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: L CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF MAR 2 n 1997 Resolution No, 97— 184 Y Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized ' to execute a Professional Services Agreement, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, with Law Enforcement Psychological and Counseling Associates, Inc., for a period of two (2) years, to conduct stress training for police officers and partners, with funds therefor hereby allocated in an amount not to exceed $47,250.00, from the Stress Training for Officers and Partners ("STOP") Grant. Section 3 This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. Funding will be from the Stress Training for Officers and Partners ("STOP") Grant. There is no match requirement for this grant. BACKGROUND: The Miami Police Department intends to enhance its Employee Assistance Program by instituting mandatory counseling sessions for all officers during their first year of employment. These sessions will also be available to the employee's family. The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded the Department a grant in the amount of $47,250.00 which will be used to contract Law Enforcement Psychological and Counseling Associates, Inc., to provide these services as per the grant award requirements. �7- 184 1
