made a difference. ,
Mr. Greer, 60, died last week. Appropriately, flags`at
Dade County schools are flying at half staff, and todday's
School Board meeting will open with a tribute.
He was a man who rose to life's challenges, and from
them molded opportunities for others. Thwarted in his
youthful ambition to become a mechanical engineer, he ---
k
the son of teachers --- became a math teacher.
Seven years later, in 1966 Mr. Greer moved into
administration. There he established programs to help
minority students excel, to provide scholarships, intern-
ships, summer classes, and field trips. In 1990 he estab-
lished the well -regarded program, PACE — Parents Aspir-
ing to a College Education.
He was a doer, a role model, a man of integrity and
achievement. Twice he was tapped to serve'as interim '

School Board came within a few votes of naming him

AND THE STUDENTS EXTREMELY WELL. AS THE HERALD
WROTE "HE WILL BE MISSED"
THEREFORE I ASK THE CITY CLERK TO SEND HIS FAMILY A
