HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-97-0115r J-97-145 2/20/97 W RESOLUTION NO.9 115 A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY AND SINCEREST CONDOLENCES OF THE CITY COMMISSION ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF MIAMI AND ITS CITIZENS TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF NATHANIEL DEAN UPON HIS UNTIMELY DEATH. WHEREAS, Nathaniel "Tannie" Dean, who recently passed away, grew up in the Overtown and Liberty City neighborhoods of Miami and Dade County, where he became a popular and influential community leader and devoted family man; and WHEREAS, he served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and later became one of the first blacks to join the Metro -Dade Police Department; and WHEREAS, his commitment to improve living standards in the inner city led him to become active in many civic organizations, and he was president of the Edison -Little River Self -Help Community Council, a Metro -Dade appointee to the county's Personnel Advisory Board, and vice chairman of the Model City Program in 1972; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Commission, on behalf of the City of Miami and its citizens, to express its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Nathaniel "Tannie" Dean upon his untimely death; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF FED ? R 1997 Resolution No. 97-.. 115 iSection 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. On behalf of the citizens of the City of Miami, the City Commission hereby conveys to the family and friends of Nathaniel "Tannie" Dean its deepest sympathy and sincerest condolences upon his untimely death. Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 20th day of February_, 1997.
