City Attu ey ENCLOSURES:
The City Commission previously approved the engagement of the law firm
of Weiss, Serota & Helfnan to serve as counsel to the City of Miami relating to
the investigation of the Department of Community Development. Because of a
conflict of interest, the City Attorney's Office was disqualified from representation
of the City. Weiss, Serota & Helfman has handled the disciplinary actions
emanating from the investigation which included a lengthy hearing before the Civil
Service Board, hearings before an arbitrator, and presently an appeal of a dismissal
taken before the Appellate Division of the Circuit Court.
It is respectfully requested that the extension herein be approved in order
for the City's representation to continue in the appellate process.
