HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-97-0078�1 J-97-87 1 /23/97 RESOLUTION N0. 9 '1 A RESOLUTION URGING PRESIDENT CLINTON TO MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO BRING ABOUT AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN AMERICAN AIRLINES AND THE PILOTS UNION IN ORDER TO AVOID ANY POTENTIAL STRIKE; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE PRESIDENT AND THE WHITE HOUSE CHIEF OF STAFF. WHEREAS, the economy in the City of Miami benefits greatly from the operations of American Airlines at the Miami Airport; and WHEREAS, a strike of American Airlines is being contemplated by its pilots; and WHEREAS, such a strike would be extremely detrimental to the economy of South Florida generally and of the City of Miami, particularly; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission hereby urges President Clinton to make every effort to bring about an agreement between American Airlines and the Pilots Union in order to avoid any potential strike. Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the President and the White House Chief of Staff.
