RESOLUTION NO. 9 7- 6
A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A DONATION FROM THE
"COMMITTEE TO RESCUE THE CUBAN HISTORICAL
ROOTS AND MONUMENTS IN THE WORLD"
ORGANIZATION OF SIX 10' ROYAL POINCIANAS TO
BE PLANTED AT THE "BAY OF PIGS MEMORIAL
PARK", SAID DONATION VALUED AT APPROXIMATELY
$270.00.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 96-893, adopted
December 12, 1996, the Flagler Terrace Mini Park was renamed the
"Bay of Pigs Memorial Park" to honor the rich heritage of the
United States and the memory of brave Americans who died as a
consequence of the historical event for the cause of the
liberation of Cuba, known as the Bay of Pigs Invasion; and
WHEREAS, said Resolution also codesignated five streets to
permanently and posthumously recognize the exceptional heroism of
five American born servicemen in connection with said historical
event; and
WHEREAS, the "Committee to Rescue the Cuban Historical Roots
and Monuments in the World" organization, which spearheaded the
renaming of said park and the codesignation of said streets,
wishes to donate six 10' Royal Poincianas to beautify the Park;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:

Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.
Section 2. A donation of six 10' Royal Poincianas to be
planted at the "Bay of Pigs Memorial Park" is hereby accepted
from the "Committee to Rescue the Cuban Historical Roots and
Monuments in the World" organization, said donation valued at
approximately $270.00.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 16th day of January 1997.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution
accepting a donation of six (6) 10' foot Royal Poincianas to be planted at the "Bay of
Pigs Memorial Park" formerly Flagler Terrace Mini Park. This donation is made by the
"Committee to Rescue the Cuban Historical Roots and Monuments in the World"
organization and it is valued at $270.00 ($45.00/tree x 6).
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Parks and Recreation recommends the adoption of the proposed
Resolution.
On December 12, 1996 the City Commission passed a Resolution which renamed Flagler
Terrace Mini Park as the "Bay of Pigs Memorial Park" and codesignated five surrounding
streets, in order to honor the rich heritage of the United States and the memory of brave
Americans who died as a consequence of the historical event known as the Bay of Pigs
Invasion, for the cause of the liberation of Cuba.
The "Committee to Rescue the Cuban Historical Roots and Monuments in the World"
organization which spearheaded the campaign to approve the referenced Resolution,
wishes to donate six (6) 10' foot Royal Poincianas to beautify the park.
