ORDINANCE NO. 11470
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 54-86 OF THE
CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS
AMENDED, TO REQUIRE THAT OWNERS OF PROPERTIES
THAT FACE, ABUT OR OPEN UPON THE MIAMI RIVER
SHALL AFFIX BUILDING NUMBERS THAT ARE VISIBLE
FROM THE MIAMI RIVER; CONTAINING A REPEALER
PROVISION AND A SEVERABIL'ITY CLAUSE; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, various law enforcement agencies patrol the Miami
River in an effort to insure the health, safety and welfare of
the owners of property that face, abut or open upon the Miami
River; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary for the various agencies to ]snow
where they are to respond to in the event that police, fire or
rescue services are needed; and
WHEREAS, affixing the building number on the property so
that it may be visible from the Miami River will be a valuable
asset to the various police, fire or rescue agencies that may
need to respond to an emergency;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Ordinance are hereby adopted by reference
thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this
Section.

Section 2. Section 54-86 of the Code of the City of
Miami, Florida, as amended, is hereby amended in the following
particulars:I/

(b-c) All buildings constructed, erected or removed
shall, upon completion of their construction, erection
or removal be numbered by the owner thereof.
(,es3) It shall be the duty of the owner to maintain,
numbers of his or her building as herein provided in
good condition and in a conspicuous place where the
same can be seen and read. from the* street and/or from
the Miami Ri ver. if applicable.
(de.) Should any owner fail to number or renumber
or to maintain numbers of his or her building as
required by the provisions of this article, the city
commission may cause the same to be done and assess the
cost thereof against the property or premises number

remaining provisions are now in.effect and remain unchanged.

and collect such amount in the same manner and with the
same penalties as city taxes.
(ef) The word "owner,11 as used in this section,
shall include owner of the fee, lessee and agent in
charge.
Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances insofar
as they are inconsistent or in conflict with the provisions of
this Ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 4. If any section, part of section, paragraph,
clause, phrase or word of this Ordinance is declared invalid, the
remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected.
Section 5. This Ordinance shall become effective thirty
(30) days after final reading and adoption thereof.

prepared the attached proposed ordinance to assist the various police, fire or rescue agencies
that patrol the River by requiring owners of properties that face, abut or open upon the Miami
River to affix building numbers that are visible from the Miami River.
