the Miami Sports and Exhibition
Authority

• ENCLOSURES.
In response to clarification regarding your right to make an appointmentto the Miami Sports and
Exhibition Authority (MSEA), I will quote from Ordinance No. 11564, as follows:
"Sports and Exhibition Authority Composition. The authority shall consist of
five (5) voting members to be appointed by the city commission, one of
whom shall be a city commissioner appointed by the city commission as an
ex officio member and the chairperson thereof. ach city
commissioner, except for the city commissioner appointed as chairperson,
shall nominate one (1) member."
At the meeting of December 9, 1997, Chairman Hernandez appointed Mayor Suarez as
chairperson of the board effective the date that the proposed MSEA ordinance to expand
board composition, etc. would go into effect and he also appointed Orlando Garcia Jr. as a
member of the board. Ordinance No. 11564 deleted the mayor from the board's composition.
One member of the city commission should be chairperson of the board. Each member of the
commission should make only one appointment to the board. These two issues need to be
addressed presently.
Since you are a city commissioner and you are not the chairperson of the Miami Sports and
Exhibition Authority, you may nominate one member. Alternately, to facilitate your
appointment to MS EA, the City Commission Chairperson or a member of the City Commission
can appoint you as the Commission member chairperson to serve until such time as the
reorganization is effectuated.
