Gibon City of Miami Commissioner Miami, Florida 33133 Dear Commissioner: I would like to respectfully request your assistance on the following matter. A student of G.W. Carver Middle School met with an untimely fatal accident on a Dade County school bus, which was a preventable accident. We made a request to the Miami City Commission to reopen Jefferson Street and they agreed, the name of the student was Chaya Brianne Thrasybule. Our request to you is to have Jefferson Street between Grand Avenue and Charles Terrace named Chaya Brianne Thrasybule Street. This would be a wonderful gesture to all Miamians, but in particular for young African Americans, who on many occasions feel that there is nothing in Miami that represents the African Americans youth, nor have they been a part of its history. Please accept our thanks. Respectfully,' Leona H. Cooper Adhoc Chair Neighborhood School Traffic 9'7-- 655 it Hon. Jose Corrollo, Mayor Contact Person City of Miami Mr. Nathaniel G. Miller, Chairman Board of Directors - Miami Dorsey Northwestern Alumni Association 3883 N. W. 207th St. Road Miami, FL 33055 (305) 625-5590 RE: Renaming of Streets Dear Mayor Corrollo, The Dorsey/Northwestern Alumni Association is requesting your assistance in the renaming of three (3) street after several Miami educators who gave much to the education of children in the.City of Miami and spent their life time giving of themselves for the betterment of the community at large. The first area of street in which'we are requesting your assistance, for renaming is the area from 19th Avenue to 7th Avenue Northwest on Northwest 71 street. The'New school now faces 71st Street and we would like this area to be named D. H. Dobbs Street. Mr. Dobbs was the Last Principal of Dorsey Jr./Sr. High School before Miami Northwestern was made or open as a senior high school. Since Miami Dorsey was the mother school of Miami Northwestern we feel this stretch of area will be symbolic because it leads to the new school. The second area to be renamed is Northwest loth Avenue at 71st Street to Northwest 36 Street to be renamedilda T. Ratcliffe Avenue. Mrs. Ratcliffe was the first principal of Miami Northwestern from when it first open in Spetember 1955 and served up. until 1959. Mrs. Ratcliffe was also the first black female principal of a high school in Dade County. Before.coming to Miami Northwestern she headed the English Department at Historical Booker T. Washington Jr./Sr. High School. She served the Liberty City, Overtown and Brownville area well and this honor is befitting her. The last area of street to be renamed is from Northwest loth Avenue west on 67th Street to Northwest 12th Avenue to be'named Samuel 0. Cohen Street. Mr. Cohen was a Principal and Educator at Miami Northwestern for many years. Your assistance and consideration of the matter will be greatly appreciated. Hoping to hear from you soon.
