Man SUBJECT Extension of North Bayshore Drive between N.E. 19 Street and N.E. 20 Terrace REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES :Location Map The purpose of this public hearing is to hear comments and discuss the opening of a new road by extending North Bayshore Drive between N.E. 19 Street and N.E. 20 Terrace. BACKGROUND North Bayshore Drive adjacent to Margaret Pace Park and north of the Omni/Plaza Venetia currently ends at N.E. 19 Street on the south side of the private Coral Park subdivision. North Bayshore Drive begins once again on the north side of the Coral Park subdivision at approximately N. E. 20 Terrace. The gap in North Bayshore Drive results in poor traffic circulation requiring local traffic to utilize Biscayne Boulevard. The owner of a majority of the property in the Coral Park subdivision has suggested that North Bayshore Drive be extended between N. E. 19 Street and N. E. 20 Terrace and has expressed a willingness to dedicate the necessary right-of-way to accomplish the extension. In order to open this new road, the property owner of lots 1 and 2 in the Coral Park subdivision must dedicate sufficient public right- of-way for the roadway as shown on the attached location map. In this case, the necessary right-of-way could be created by a simple deed to dedication to the City. The property owner has also suggested the closing and vacating of the remaining portion of N. E. 20 Street in the Coral Park subdivision in exchange for dedicating the necessary right-of-way for the extension of North Bayshore Drive. in order to close and vacate N. E. 20 Street, the Coral Park subdivision must be replatted to comply with current subdivision regulations. In this case, the dedication of the North Bayshore Drive right-of-way would be included in the replatting process. The purpose of this public hearing is to hear comments from City staff, property owners and the general public, and consider the suggestion to eliminate the current gap by extending North Bayshore Drive.
