As discussed, The Miami Times is requesting your assistance as we present the first in a series of community health fairs. The faies entitled, "Community Check-up," will address high incidence disease in minority communities through education and preventive cure, The day -long event set for Saturday, May 31 st is being developed in conjunction with The American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society, The University of Miami, School of Medicine and area medical centers. Creator Miami has the largest concentration of medical facilities in the state of Florida, with more than 32,000 healthcare profes- sionals meeting the needs of the nation's 16th largest market, Miami is the mecca for medi- cal care with the second largest hospital complex in the nation - University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital and its host of of renowned specialized facili- ties, such as The Sylvester Com- prehensive Cancer Center, Dascom Palmer Eye Institute and The Mailman Center for Child Development. Join us as we work with The American Heart Association, The. American Cancer Association, The American Cancer Society,The National Black Leaders Initative On Cancer, The Black Nurses Association, The National Medibal Association along with The University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and The Diabetes Prevention Program, The Department of Health, Project Screen., YWCA Encore Plus, A Community Check -Up Quarterly Health Fair The specific needs of the community will be addresses quarterly at locations across South Florida, with a health awareness initative involving area hospitals, health maintence organizations, professionals and community based health organizations.
