RESOLUTION NO. 9 8 -12 31
A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY AND
SINCEREST CONDOLENCES OF THE CITY COMMISSION
ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF MIAMI AND ITS
CITIZENS TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF AMBER
ADAMS KAY, UPON HER UNTIMELY DEATH.
WHEREAS, the City Commission has been informed that Amber
Adams Kay, the mother of James J. Kay, the Director of Public
Works for the City of Miami, passed away on December 4, 1998; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Kay came to the City of Miami more than 70
years ago, and was a dedicated public school teacher in Miami -
Dade County for more than 33 years; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Kay was very active in many organizations,
including the Daughters of the American Revolution, Retired
School Teachers of Dade, the Miami Woman's Club, and numerous
other organizations; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Commission, on behalf
of the City of Miami and its citizens, to express its deepest

sympathy to the family and friends of Amber Adams Kay;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. On behalf of the citizens of the City of
Miami, the City Commission hereby conveys to the family and
friends of Amber Adams Kay, its deepest sympathy and sincerest
condolences upon her untimely death.
Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 8th day of December , 1998.

Whereas: Amber Adams moved to Miami from Columbus, Ohio, with her
parents, brothers and sisters in 1927, and
Whereas: In 1930, Amber Adams married George Edward Kay. Their
marriage endured 50 years, until George's passing in 1980; and
Whereas: Amber Adams Kay taught school for 33 years, and was an
active member of United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the
Miami Women's Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Retired
School Teachers of Dade, and numerous other organizations; and
Whereas: Amber Adams Kay passed away Friday, December 4, 1998,
She is survived by her son, James, daughter-in-law, Susan and
granddaughter, Elizabeth Kay. She also left behind her brother, Joseph P.
Adams, Jr., sisters Martha Jean Kenney, Ruth Sommers and Josephine
White, and her dear friend and caregiver, Edna Livingston;
Now Therefore: The Mayor and Commissioners of the City of Miami do
hereby extend heartfelt condolences on the passing of Amber Adams Kay,
mother of City of Miami Public Works Director James Kay.
