HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-98-1114J-98-1143 (, q qq 11/6/98 RESOLUTION NO. 9 8 -' 1114 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PAYMENT OF FEES TO THE LAW FIRM OF ZACK KOSNITZKY, P.A., FOR SERVICES PROVIDED AS LEGAL COUNSEL TO THE CITY OF MIAMI'S SINGLE -MEMBER DISTRICT BLUE RIBBON COMMITTEE; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, IN THE AMOUNT OF $23,665.48, IN FULL PAYMENT, FROM ACCOUNT CODE NO. 920205-250. WHEREAS, the City Commission, on March 20, 1997, adopted Resolution No. 97-192, allocating funds in the amount of $50,000 for professional services and any reasonable costs incurred by the City of Miami's Blue Ribbon Committee on a proposed charter amendment to establish single -member districts; and WHEREAS, the City Commission further authorized the engagement of special counsel to assist the Blue Ribbon Committee, for which said counsel was to be paid reasonable costs, to be determined upon the conclusion of said services; and WHEREAS, Steve Zack, Esquire, of the law firm of Zack Kosnitzky, P.A., was retained to provide the aforementioned services; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this CP1? The payment of fees, in the amount of $23,665.48, as full payment for services provided to the City of Miami by the law firm of Zack Kosnitzky, P.A., as legal counsel to the City-s Single -Member District Blue Ribbon Committee, is hereby approved, with funds therefor hereby allocated from Account Code No. 920205-250. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission. - 2 - 98-11 4 CITY OF MIAMI CITY ATTORNEY' S OFFICE 21 A MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission FROM: Wifredo Gort, Commissioner DATE: November 6, 1998 RE: Proposed Resolution: Payment of legal fees to Zack Kosnitzky, P.A.; Single -Member Districts Blue Ribbon Committee's Legal Counsel Resolution No. 97-192 During the City Commission Meeting of November 21, 1996, I was appointed by Mayor Carollo to be the "Liaison/Commission Representative to the Blue Ribbon Panel Committee for reviewing procedural steps necessary for creation of district elections within the City of Miami." The Committee was to "consider the issue of proposed single -member districts, how many, and the appropriate composition of same." On March 20, 1997, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 97-192 allocating funds therefor, in an amount not to exceed $50,000, to pay for professional services and costs incurred by the Blue Ribbon Committee. Said Resolution also authorized engagement of special counsel to assist the Blue Ribbon Committee, "with reasonable costs for said services to be determined at the conclusion of said services." Steve Zack, of the law firm of Zack Kosnitzky, P.A., was retained as the committee's legal counsel, provided counsel throughout the successful process of creating the City's new Single -Member District commission format, and has submitted invoices totaling $23,665.48. The City Attorney's Office has reviewed the subject invoices and has determined that said bills are reasonable and acceptable.
