HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-98-1092J-98-1207 11/16/98 RESOLUTION NO. 9 8 — 10 9 2 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE FLORIDA EAST COAST TRANSIT FEASIBILITY ORGANIZATION'S ("FEC-TFO") ENDORSEMENT OF A JOINT APPLICATION, ALONG WITH THE CITIES OF FORT LAUDERDALE AND WEST PALM BEACH, TO THE FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION, AND THE TRANSPORTATION AND COMMUNITY AND SYSTEM PRESERVATION PILOT PROGRAM FOR A GRANT(S) TO FUND OR IMPLEMENT A TRANSIT GREENWAY AND TRI- CITY TRANSIT CORRIDOR; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO TRANSMIT A LETTER OF INTENT TO THE FEC-TFO INDICATING THE CITY OF MIAMI'S ENDORSEMENT OF SAID APPLICATION. WHEREAS, Mayors from many cities along Florida's East Coast met in January 1998, to discuss and support transit opportunities for a transit greenway and tri-city corridor study; and WHEREAS, Miami -Dade County has prepared a series of conceptual Master Plans for the redevelopment of key corridors in Miami -Dade County; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami has become aware of an opportunity for planning and implementation funding for innovative projects through the Federal Highway Administrations ("FHWA"), Transportation and Community and System Preservation Pilot Program ("TCSP"); and WHEREAS, the Cities of Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach are working in cooperation with the Florida East Coast Transit Feasibility Organization ("FEC-TFO"), a Florida not -for -profit valy COMMISSION MEETING OF NOkr 1 6 1998 Resolution Na 9�-i�9 corporation, to file an application for funding to plan and/or implement a transmit system; and WHEREAS, the deadline for submission o the letter of intent is November 15, 1998, and a grant application will be due by applicants so selected on February 16, 1999; and WHEREAS, there will be no costs to the City for said action; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission hereby supports the Florida East Coast Transit Feasibility Organization's ("FEC-TFO") endorsement of a joint application, along with the Cities of Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, to the Federal Highway Administration, and the Transportation And Community and System Preservation Pilot Program for a grant(s) to fund or implement a transit greenway and tri-city transit corridor. Section 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to transmit a Letter of Intent to the FEC-TFO indicating the City of Miami's endorsement of said application. Section 4. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission. - 3 - 98-.
