HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-98-1033J-98-949 9/16/98 RESOLUTION NO. 9y r 1 v j 3 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A PROFESSIONAL SERVICE AGREEMENT, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, WITH THE COOPER INSTITUTE FOR AEROBICS RESEARCH, FOR A PERIOD OF ONE (1) YEAR, TO PROVIDE A PHYSICAL FITNESS SPECIALIST CERTIFICATION WORKSHOP, FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $12,000.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR, FROM THE ENTREPENEURIAL FUND, ACCOUNT CODE NO. 126001.290402.6.270. WHEREAS, the Miami Police Department seeks to provide a physical fitness specialist certification workshop for its employees and other law enforcement agencies; and WHEREAS, The Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research will provide a forty (40) hour training course entitled Physical Fitness Specialist Certification Workshop; and WHEREAS, upon completion of the course, individuals will be certified to assist with future training programs; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this C ff COKMSSION DOM'IING OF 0 C T 13 1998 Raeau6w 140. Section. Section 2. The City Manger is hereby authorizedlf to execute a Professional Service Agreement, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, with The Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research, for a period of one (1) year, to provide a Physical Fitness Specialist Certification Workshop for the City of Miami Police Department, in an amount not to exceed $12,000.00, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Police Entrepreneurial Fund, Account Code No. 126001.290402.6.270. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2./ PASSED AND ADOPTED this 13th day of October , 1998. REFERENCES: PThe Coo er Institute of City Manager Aerobics Research; Professional ENCLOSURES: Service Agreement RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the enclosed Resolution, with attachment, allowing the City Manager to execute a Professional Service Agreement with The Cooper Institute of Aerobics Research, in an amount not to exceed $12,000.00, for the Miami Police Department. Funding is available from the Police Entrepreneurial Fund, Account Code No. 126001.290402.6.270. BACKGROUND The Police Department's Training Unit would. like to offer other law enforcement agencies a Physical Fitness Specialist Certification Workshop provided by The Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research. This will consist of a 40-hour physical fitness specialist certification course. The Cooper Institute is a highly respected leading authority in physical fitness training and provides training throughout the world. Several individuals within the department will be certified in order to assist with future training programs. The department will advertise nation-wide and charge a fee of $595.00 per participant. If the number of applications needed to offset the cost are received, we will proceed with the program, if not, the course will be canceled prior to the deadline. The department also has the opportunity to train its employees at no cost. DHW:lmr 08-1033
