HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-98-0997J-98-1048 10/6/98 RESOLUTION NO. 9 8 - 997 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE TO UTILIZE THE MIAMI-DADE COMMUNITY COLLEGE DRIVING TRACK, AT AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $10,000 ANNUALLY; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT FISCAL YEAR 1998-99 GENERAL OPERATING BUDGET, ACCOUNT CODE NO. 001000.290201.6.270; AUTHORIZING HE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER TO ISSUE A PURCHASE ORDER AND THEREAFTER TO ALLOW SAID USAGE ON AN ANNUAL BASIS, SUBJECT TO THE AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS. WHEREAS, the Department of Police must provide officer survival training to its sworn officers on an annual basis; and WHEREAS, part of the curriculum is a ten hour block of defensive driving; and WHEREAS, this curriculum will enhance the driving skills of each officer and promote safe operation of their police cruisers; and WHEREAS, said driving course is the only course in the area to meet the requirements of the Police Department; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY CTY COMMON PAMING OF OCT 13 1998 Reswutum 140. OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Department of Police is hereby authorized to utilize the Miami -Dade Community College Driving Range, at an amount not to exceed $10,000 annually, with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Police Department Fiscal Year 1998-99 General Operating Budget, Account Code No. 001000.290201.6.270. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to instruct the Chief Procurement Officer to issue a purchase order and thereafter to allow said usage on an annual basis, subject to the availability of funds. Section 4. WarshaW _._.._,,... - REFERENCES: City Manager ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATION CA=26 AUI:` -5 1998 Proposed Resolution Police Department's Use of Driving Range FILE: It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the Department of Police to utilize the Miami -Dade Community College driving range, in an amount not to exceed $10,000.00 on an annual basis. Funding is to be provided from the Police Department FY 98/99 General Operating Budget, Account 001000.290201.6.270. BACKGROUND: The Department of Police must provide annual officer survival training to its sworn officers. The Officer Survival curriculum features a ten-hour block of instruction in defensive driving. The need for this course is to enhance the driving skills of each officer and to promote safe operation of their police cruisers. The driving range will be utilized approximately six (6) hours per week during the 1998-1999 Officer Survival Program. The usage fee is thirty (30) dollars an hour. This is the only driving range in the area to meet the requirements of the Police Department. 98- 997
