ENCLOSURES:
RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully requested that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution
classifying a barge located at the Miami Marine Stadium as category "A" surplus stock
and donating the same to the Atlantic Gamefish Foundation.
BACKGROUND
The City is owner of the barge located directly across the Miami Marine Stadium. This
barge was used for events such as concerts when the Miami Marine Stadium was
operational. This barge has become unsuitable for City use and has been declared surplus
by the Chief Procurement Officer. Today the barge has sunk and its poses a liability to
the City in the event of a hurricane.
Atlantic Gamefish Foundation, a not for profit organization, ("Atlantic") is interested in
turning this sunken barge into an artificial reef that will be used by South Florida divers
and fishermen. Atlantic will supply the resources necessary to raise the barge, tow it out
to its new destination and re -sink it. Atlantic will further remove the aluminum framing
from the barge and place it within the Miami Marine Stadium for the City's future use or
disposition.
The attached resolution formalizes the donation of the surplus barge to the Atlantic
Gamefish Foundation.
